PROLIFIC UK R&B MUSICIAN AND PRODUCER BENNY BIZZIE RETURNS WITH EXQUISITE NEW ‘CHRYSALIS’ EP
CHRYSALIS is the glorious new EP from British R&B singer, songwriter, and producer BENNY BIZZIE. Written and composed by the UMA-nominated musician, the Chrysalis EP sees Benny reuniting with long-time collaborator and acclaimed UK producer Cee Figz, who has also worked with the likes of Popcaan, Wretch 32, Tion Wayne and Fredo, to bring the 7-track project to life, along with additional production from Simon Brown, and live instrumentation from musician Darren Franklin (Lola Young, Jermaine Jackman) and alternative rock band Less Than Hollow.
Backed by the MOBO Awards and Help Musicians, and filled with well-crafted love songs and glorious R&B bangers, infused with hip-hop, soul and indie sensibilities, the Chrysalis EP opens with the vulnerable ‘Drunk N Naked’, and the R&B-rap fusion track ‘Window Frame’, and dives deeper into its themes of love and relationships with songs like ‘On The Double’, ‘Forever’, which is about finding new love, and the summer-ready ‘Signals’, before closing out with the defiant ‘Player’ and the empowering ‘Power In The Pain’, which sees Benny calling for listeners to choose themselves.
Speaking about the inspiration behind Chrysalis, Benny Bizzie says, “The EP is about love, growth, and empowerment. Somewhere along the way in my life, I forgot who I was, and I lost myself, but I am getting it back one day at a time. ‘Chrysalis’ is me breaking free from the caterpillar stage, and becoming a butterfly, where we spread our wings and fly. This EP shows my growth over the years, and I created it so that others see that they are not alone in their early life stages of figuring things out, and going through their own growing pains. We’ve all had to start somewhere as is the nature of life”.
Born to Nigerian parents and raised in Tottenham in North London, Benny Bizzie began his musical journey as a songwriter and grime artist before finding his passion in singing R&B songs, often using music as a therapy outlet. His unique combination of a grime foundation and singing dexterity led to collaborations with grime legends such as Skepta, JME and Meridian Dan, and some of the UK’s finest producers including P2J (Dave, Wizkid, Snoh Aalegra) and ZDOT (Stormzy, Cardi B), as well as support from the likes of BBC 1Xtra, KISS FM, GRM Daily and Channel AKA.
After taking a five-year hiatus from music for health reasons, Benny Bizzie returned in 2019 with the glorious comeback EP E-Motion, which garnered over a million plays online, and while the pandemic briefly halted his triumphant re-introduction to the UK music scene, he bounced back in 2021 releasing five singles to rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Benny began 2022 going viral on TikTok with the excellent ‘Drunk N Naked’ single to announce his new project Chrysalis, and two more singles later, the North London native is excited to unveil the 7-track Chrysalis EP on July 29.
‘Chrysalis’, the new EP from Benny Bizzie is out on July 29.
